Abstract

At SWIB 2014 Conference, I learned about linked data firsthand and it had an impact on my research and practice over the past ten years. In this presentation, I will share my works related to linked data, especially on Wikidata and researcher identifiers, to reflect on how SWIB conferences have influenced and shaped both my research and practice over the years.

Some examples of these works are my recent case study of ORCID users at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (2025), my lightning talk at SWIB 2020 Conference on Wikidata and al-Jazari, my experiment with name entities in Wikidata (2019) and my presentation at SWIB 2015 Conference on a pilot study of American University in Cairo faculty and their researcher identifiers. I will also discuss the local practices implemented at the University of Tennessee Libraries to add ORCIDs and relevant URIs to our catalog records and my involvement with OCLC Entities Project on their advisory board. All of these research and practices were inspired by much of what I have learned at SWIB conferences on how linked data and Semantic Web work in the libraries’ context.
