Abstract
This presentation describes the process of adopting a new vocabulary editor at the National Library of Finland; we will share experiences, results and findings emerging from the process. We present suggestions and lessons learned for others in the community and their use cases.
Editing and maintaining controlled vocabularies used in subject indexing and content description is a big part of the daily work at the library. Our team is involved in this task, but also develops and maintains our own vocabulary and ontology browser Skosmos (https://skosmos.org) in-house. We however need another tool for making changes to and editing vocabularies - for ourselves and for the users of our Vocabulary and Ontology service Finto - that meets our criteria and can be integrated into our infrastructure.
In this presentation we will focus on the VocBench-tool (https://vocbench.uniroma2.it/) that was chosen for the task as a result of this process. We further describe our use case with requirements emerging from our own environment and discuss our findings with regard to the technical review process and user testing.
