Abstract
Resource Description and Access (RDA) is a content standard used by library cataloging communities across the world. Published as a successor to the Anglo American Cataloging Rules 2 (AACR2), Original RDA has been used for the past decade primarily in MARC-based environments. This first version of RDA was brought into alignment with the IFLA Library Reference Model (LRM) several years ago as Official RDA, which is best suited to linked data implementation and features an updated linked data ontology at the RDA Registry. The international RDA cataloging community must move from Original to Official RDA in the coming year, as the Original RDA Toolkit will be retired at that time in favor of the new Official RDA Toolkit.
This workshop provides participants an opportunity to practice applying Official RDA in a linked data sandbox, Wikibase Cloud. Participants create login credentials to a Wikibase Cloud instance pre-populated with RDA/RDF properties and access streamlined application profiles for monographs cataloging. Following along with a step-by-step live demonstration, participants catalog a familiar book they bring from home using the RDA/RDF linked data ontology. The workshop welcomes participants from beginning to advanced experience levels with cataloging, RDA, and Wikibase.
